I sure want to. Not on purpose. It just keeps happening. I am building an OM cutaway for my brother for his graduation from his Masters Program next spring. When I bent the sides, I bent them for a left-handed cutaway. Whoops. I had to flip them over and re-profile the sides. Then today I cut out the back. I am using this beautiful set of Macassar Ebony. Perfectly bookmatched. Err, perfectly bookmatched ON THE INSIDE, that is. DOH! I cut the cutaway on the wrong side again. Well, flip it over, and it is still a good looking piece of wood, even if it is not perfectly bookmatched on the other side. It is still bookmatched in all respects except there is a nice dark streak on the right that isn't on the left. Looks fine. On the inside, the two halves are evenly streaked. My brother will never notice the difference, and it still looks very good. I just can't believe I keep making the same mistake. |

Kelby I know how you feel....had the same problem with my first two guitars. The solution? I write notes on my guitars while Im building them. Bass and Treble side of top and back get clearly annotated in wite pencil. Before they go on the guitar sides get clearly marked with top, bottom, inside and outside. Lower and upper bouts also get marked on the sides. Sounds like overkill but like my wife says..."when you get old you should write everything down". |

I have the OPPOSITE problem being a leftie...when I work according to rightie brace plans, I have to turn the ruddy thing over to get the leftie version!! Then there's remembering to cut the saddle slot the leftie way...I have cut TWO rightie slots accidently *DOH!!* was third time lucky... You think you've got problems... ![]() ![]() |
